3 Steps To A Happy School Morning

It's Monday y'all. 

Actually, it's a rainy Monday morning.  Awesome, huh? 

This is exactly what I would have thought years ago.  But today the rain didn't bother me today.  Heck, waking up to Monday didn't even bother me.  We had a great morning . . . as great of a school morning as you can actually have!  Haha!

So I want to let you in on a few ways we make our mornings successful around here.  


1. Plan your week on Sunday.

This has been the absolute best thing I have ever done.  Going into the week knowing what to expect is HUGE!  I run the week instead of it running me.  My all time favorite tool for this is Google Calendar, of course.  There are five of us (plus 2 pretty awesome labradoodles).  We each have our own color in the master calendar (not the doggies) and I have a few for my photography business as well.  Being able to see and shift things around at a glance has been a lifesaver for managing this household!

2. Get everything ready the night before.

You've scrambled to find the one missing shoe just two minutes before the bus comes screeching in, right?  Please tell me I'm not the only mom whose kids randomly leave one shoe in some obscure place.  How does that even happen?!   

Anyway, where was I?  Oh yeah.  Getting all the things together the night before.  Lunches packed, book bags by the door, outfits (and shoes) laid out, and all those miscellaneous school papers signed and back in the folders!

Now your precious children can wake up refreshed, eat their breakfast without grumbling or arguing with each other, get dressed quietly, grab their bags and head on to the bus stop or car in the best moods ever!  Ok, maybe that was a little exaggerated, but you get the point :)   

3. Wake up at least 30 minutes before the kids.

Ok, the mornings I don't do this makes for a really tough start to the day.  That snooze button is so tempting, but a few extra minutes of sleep does not help when you are trying to get yourself AND the kids ready at the same time!  

Ideally, I like to have an hour for myself in the mornings.  The house is quiet, and I can ease into the day.  Sometimes I use this time to sit and read, listen to a favorite podcast or get in a quick workout.  But at the very least, I need a quick shower and some lemon water to get going and clear the morning fog before having to answer 100 questions or moderate who gets shotgun.  You know exactly what I'm talking about, don't you?
